CoS got ya down? Consider 2H hybrid!

Well, servers are still down and we don't know where CoS stands. However, I like to play, so I came up with a build focused on 2H damage. What do ya think:

PvP Hybrid with a focus on 2H damage.

Why go hybrid with 2H?

Haste - More damage
PI - Stam regen, 2H's biggest downfall (coupled with Second Wind?! zomg :P)
Sever - DOES work with 2H, increased burst ftw!
Unstoppable - Great PvP talent, when it works

Not bad, but I don't think they CoS nerf is that bad to really warrant switching to 2h...

We'll have to see, I've always hoped to play 2H endgame, this might give me the chance.

I've been following your guide for 2H to 50 and then re-speccing. I'm only 43 now so I haven't even re-specced yet before CoS got nerfed lol. Shame. I would have liked to see what all the fuss was about. 2h spec seems to be a bit of a problem in PvP, at least for me. Maybe I just haven't practiced enough, but I can't ever seem to get my big damage moves like staggering blow to land. I've been having pretty good luck with trying to knock people down to half health with whatever sticks and then using "no escape" to finish them off, but I understand that's not going to work for much longer. I guess i need to learn how to "preload" combos, but that seems way to cheezy. I hate to resort to a tactic that is flagrantly exploiting game engine flaws just to win. I mean, I can't see that in real life combat... a guy swinging his sword through the empty air to "charge up" a combo move? lol.

Anyway, really glad to see you've got a new spec up for us to take a look at.

I agree with the relative absurdity of charging up combos as you're running up, but damn the game mechanics that make it work :P

And alternate playstyle is to go like a true rogue, pop out with a stealth hit and go right into a stunlock. Hopefully CoS will still be playable though, if the nerf isn't too extreme.

By the way, have they ever come up with a reason why you have to stay stationary in this game, to execute combos? I studied Tae Kwon Do for 10 years and I was trained in Hand-to-Hand combat in the Marines, and I'm not away of a single real world "combo" that could even be executed successfully at all, while somebody is standing still.

For instance, the standard USMC choke hold (fatality) requires you to sneak up behind somebody and clasp your hands in a certain way under their chin, and then immediately take 3 backwards steps, pulling them with you. On the third step you drop to kneeling position and leverage the back of their head against your right shoulder, while tucking your face down against their left shoulder so they can't gouge your eyes. It would be completely impossible to even attempt, standing still.

I like the action-orientation of this combat engine, but some parts of it really annoy the hell out of me :|

Thanks for the reply, gokex :)

Would you suggest at my level (43) that I continue with the 2h spec? At what point would you recommend investing in the other two trees?

I definitely agree with your comments about moving. The fact that melee characters are essentially treated as 0 yard range casters (with a cast timer and all) when it comes to executing a combo is rather absurd. I would love to be able to keep chasing my target while executing the combo because God knows, he'll be running.

As for your spec, check out the top link on the left under "Important Posts" the first is my take on when you should respec :) If CoS has remained solid dps (or, even, unchanged as I've been hearing) then I'd say try it out still. Level 50 is the generic suggestion, though mid 40s work.
